Psychologist
Hello and welcome to the School Psychologist’s corner! My name is Alan Shaw, and I’ve been honored to serve as Rata’s School Psychologist for the last seven and a half years.
In addition to providing direct support to students, families, and school staff and administration, your friendly neighborhood School Psychologist is also a source of referral information, for schools and homes.
For our students, many families have found the Central Valley Regional Center to be a very helpful and supportive organization. Commonly referred to as the, “CVRC”, (in our area), this governmental organization provides assistance and advocacy for students, (and adults) with Special needs, their families, and for organizations like schools which are part of students’ lives. The CVRC is a private, non-profit agency funded by the state of California.
Their mission, (as stated on their website, www.cvrc.org) is to help individuals with developmental disabilities, and children at risk, to reach their goals. The CVRC also coordinates resources and collaborates with other agencies to assist and advocate. I’ve found the staff to be caring, helpful, and responsive; their phone number is (559) 276-4300. The address of the Fresno office is 4615 N. Marty, 93722.
Another local agency that can provide support and assistance to students and families is Fresno County Mental Health; Children’s Mental Health Services. They are located near Shields and Millbrook in Fresno, (3133 N. Millbrook Ave., Fresno, CA 93703). The phone number to call for basic, introductory information is (559) 600-8918 and other important phone numbers are listed below. This agency can assist with mental health and substance abuse issues at a reasonable cost, to residents of Fresno county. The intake process can begin with a simple phone call to set up an intake appointment.
